In the K2 and K3 conversions, extensive floor reinforcement was installed to support the additional weight imposed by the five fuel tanks. Although over twice as many Tridents were built as VC10s, the VC10’s service as a tanker gave it a prominence in the records above that of the Trident. The five K2s were the oldest airframes in the fleet, and in recent years some of these airframes had already been temporarily stored when not in need.
